What you'll do
This is a paid, fully remote, full-time role open to international applicants.
As a Staff Front End Engineer, you will partner closely with GreatFrontEnd's engineering, product and design teams to conceptualize, scope and lead projects. You will work in an environment with a heavy emphasis on highly-polished user experiences, experimentation, and front end infrastructure. In doing so, you will grow rapidly in your front end skills, while building projects and tools that millions of front end engineers will potentially use.
Responsibilities
- Work with a team of technically sophisticated engineers who put users first to craft new products and features that impact hundreds of thousands of engineers around the world
- Partner with business, product and design to translate growth strategies into technical plans.
- Scope, design, and develop new technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage products to iteratively evolve and scale.
- Uphold our high engineering standards and bring consistency to the many codebases and processes you will encounter.
Who you are
We're looking for someone who meets the minimum considerations to be considered for the role. Preferred qualifications are a bonus.
Minimum requirements
- At least 5+ years of software development experience, with an emphasis of using modern front end technologies to build delightful user interfaces.
- Comfort operating both as a front end specialist and full stack developer and owning projects end-to-end.
- Experience leading teams to deliver complex projects.
- Motivated by solving hard problems, and measuring your success in terms of impact doing so.
- Thrive in a highly collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Enjoy working with a diverse group of people with different areas of expertise.
Preferred requirements
- Experience with our current technical stack:
- UI: React, Headless UI, Radix UI.
- Styling: Tailwind CSS.
- React-based rendering frameworks like Next.js, Remix, or Docusaurus.
- Knowledge or experience with React Server Components (GreatFrontEnd uses Next.js 13 app directory).
- Markdown processing, and authoring plugins especially for MDX v2 and the ecosystem (Remark, Rehype).
- Database/ORMs: PostgreSQL, Supabase, Prisma.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with front end infrastructure and tooling (e.g. Babel, ESLint, TypeScript).
- Experience maintaining and contributing to open source projects.

The rate for this role will be narrowed down based on a number of factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and actual location.
Interview process
Applicants who successfully move to the next stage of the interview will receive a take home assignment that requires around 2 hours to complete.
